Personal Background

Pat O’Connell has a six-year Commissioner appointment to the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission starting on January 1, 2023. He comes to the PRC with almost three decades of experience working in and around water, gas and electric utilities. Pat has lived most of his life in Albuquerque and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1990 with a degree in Civil Engineering. The Commissioner is a registered professional engineer in the state of New Mexico. 

Pat brings to the Commission experience providing water, heat and electricity to New Mexicans. This direct experience includes planning to integrate new technologies and relying more on New Mexico’s abundant renewable energy potential. Provision of utility services is interconnected and becoming more complicated by the impacts of climate change. Technology development is accelerating, and existing technologies are being deployed in new ways. Pat is committed to ensuring the provision of utility service for New Mexicans progresses reliably and cost effectively.

 

Education

University of New Mexico -1990 with a degree in Civil Engineering. The Commissioner is a registered professional engineer in the state of New Mexico.
